Artists Statement
Still life offers a way to slow down and observe the subtle relationships between shape, color, and light. Through my painting, I invite the viewer to linger and examine the quiet beauty of the everyday.
My traditional atelier training provides the technical foundation for my vision, yet I prioritize personal sensibility over rigid perfection. I welcome a slight wobble in my work, favoring character and charm over precision. I am drawn to humble, overlooked objects—worn textiles and vintage utensils—that speak to the intersection of past and present.
My current work explores flat compositions, shallow space, and trompe l’oeil effects, with a particular focus on the sculptural planes of cheese. This approach is informed by my background as a photo-illustrator, where I built layered collages to tell visual stories. Today, I translate that narrative sensibility into paint, seeking out the geometry and unique compositions found in the domestic world.
