Artists Statement

Still life offers a way to slow down and observe objects and the subtle relationships between their shapes, color, and light. Through my painting, I invite the viewer to linger and examine the everyday.

My traditional atelier training has allowed me to take control of my vision while still holding on to my personal sensibility with a contemporary edge which stems from my interest in the geometry and unique compositions I endeavor to create. I welcome a slight wobble in the work, favoring its charm over precision. I’m drawn to humble, often overlooked, everyday objects—worn textiles, vintage utensils that tell a story of the intersection of the past and present.

I gravitate toward flat compositions, shallow space, and trompe l’oeil effects, with a current focus on the sculptural planes of cheese.

My art is influenced from my years working as a photo-illustrator where I created layered photo collages that tell a visual version of a story.
